Parents & Children
We’ll start with some basic information about the parents and kids involved in this case.
You can use “Parent A / Parent B” instead of Mother/Father if that fits your case better. These labels will appear on the summary and worksheets.
Income – W-2 Style
Enter annual income for each parent. You can add up all W-2s and other income types. Use the same numbers you’d get from tax forms.
Parent A income (annual)
Parent B income (annual)
Tip: To annualize, multiply monthly amounts by 12, or weekly amounts by 52.
Deductions & Other Support
These are amounts that Montana’s guidelines allow you to subtract from income (taxes, mandatory retirement, support for other children, etc.).
Parent A deductions (annual)
Parent B deductions (annual)
Use annual totals. You may need to convert from paystub “year-to-date” amounts.
Child-Related Costs
These are costs for the children in this case only. The calculator will split them between parents.
Do not include costs already counted elsewhere (like adult health insurance or unrelated debt).
Parenting Time
Enter the approximate number of days per year each child spends with each parent. If parenting time is the same for all children, you can use one set of numbers.
If either parent has more than 110 days per year with a child, Worksheet B’s shared-parenting adjustment may apply. This tool approximates that adjustment.
